Question

Is acceleration possible in uniform motion? Give example.

Open in App
Solution

  1. A body is said to be in uniform motion when its velocity remains constant with time.
  2. Yes, acceleration is possible in uniform motion.

Let's understand it by the following example,

  1. Consider a body in circular motion having a constant magnitude of velocity.
  2. Since the body continuously changes its direction, therefore the velocity does not remain constant as it is a vector quantity even though its magnitude remains constant.
  3. Since there is a change in velocity with respect to time, the body accelerates.
  4. This acceleration is called centripetal acceleration and it is directed towards the center of the circular path.
