Question

Is any ATP produced in the electron transport chain?

Open in App
Solution

Electron transport chain:

  1. Electron transport is defined as the series of redox reactions which is similar to a relay race.
  2. When electrons are passed from one component to another one until the end of the chain the electrons reduce molecular oxygen and thus producing water.
  3. The requirement of oxygen in the final phase could be witnessed in chemical reactions that involve the requirement of both oxygen and glucose. If the electron transport chain is blocked it will halt the synthesis of ATP by chemiosmosis.
  4. Yes, ATP is formed via oxidative phosphorylation.
