This kingdom includes all the prokaryotic organisms.
Bacterias are the sole members of this kingdom.
The bacteria have simpler structures but they are very complex in behavior. and show extensive metabolic properties.
These may be photoautotrophs or chemoautotrophs.
There are 2 categories included in monera:
Archaebacteria
Eubacteria
Archaebacteria:
They live in some extreme habitats such as extreme salty areas (halophiles), hot springs (thermoacidophiles), and marshy areas (methanogens).
Methanogens are also present in the gut of ruminant animals like cattle and are responsible for methane gas.
Eubacteria:
These are true bacteria and are characterized by the presence of a rigid cell wall and flagellum that provides motility.
These may be photosynthetic autotrophs, chemosynthetic autotrophs, and heterotrophs.
Heterotrophs play a great role in human life. They are used in the bakery and brewery industry but disease-causing organisms are also part of the same group.
There is a group of bacteria called mycoplasma that lacks the cell wall and are pathogenic to plants and animals.
