Is bacteria bigger than fungi?

Open in App
Solution

Bacteria:

  1. They are prokaryotic lifeforms.
  2. The cell might be rod-shaped, spherical (coccus), comma-shaped (vibrio), or spiral in shape (spirillum).
  3. The bacterial cell size is 1-5 microns.

Fungi:

  1. They are eukaryotic in nature.
  2. They can be single-celled (like yeast) or filamentous (like fungal hyphae).
  3. These hyphae assemble to create ascocarp, basidiocarp, and other structures in higher fungi.
  4. The fungal cell size is 5-10 microns.

Hence, Fungi are generally bigger in size than bacteria.
