Are bacteria classified under monera or protista?

Solution

Bacteria:

  1. They are prokaryotic lifeforms.
  2. The cell might be rod-shaped, spherical (coccus), comma-shaped (vibrio), or spiral in shape (spirillum).
  3. They are unicellular and microscopic.
  4. Membrane-bound organelles aren't present.

Monera

  1. Monerans are solitary organisms.
  2. The organisms belonging to this Kingdom are prokaryotic.
  3. The DNA is known as naked DNA because it is not bound by a nuclear membrane.
  4. They have ribosomes that are 70s.
  5. Organelles that are membrane-bound, such as mitochondria, lysosomes, plastids, Golgi bodies, endoplasmic reticulum, centrosomes, and others, are missing.
  6. The cell wall is made up of peptidoglycan and is stiff.
  7. They have flagella or pili.
  8. They have both autotrophic and heterotrophic modes of nutrition.
  9. Examples, Lactobacillus, Vibrio cholerae, etc.

Protista:

  1. These organisms are eukaryotic and unicellular.
  2. They have a nucleus that is membrane-bound, as well as other membrane-bound cellular organelles.
  3. For movement, they have pseudopodia, cilia, or flagella.
  4. They demonstrate both autotrophic and heterotrophic nutrition
  5. Examples include Amoeba, Euglena, Paramecium, etc.

Hence, bacteria are classified under the kingdom Monera.
