Bleaching powder is mostly Calcium Hypochlorite which is basic when added to water. Bleaching powder is a mixture of Baking Soda (NaHCO3) which is a base & mild edible acid like it could be tartaric acid. Most bleaching agents contain sodium hypochlorite (NaClO), which is a base.
