Areolar tissue is the loose connective tissue made up of sticky matrix with fibers like white collagen and yellow elastic fibers and abundant mucin content.
It is otherwise called packaging tissue as it fills the space inside the organs.
It also helps in repairing the tissues after an injury.
Another important function includes fixing the skin to underlying muscles.
Two types of areolar tissues based on the fibers present:
White collagen fibers made up of collagen.
Yellow elastic fibers made up of elastin.
Areolar tissue commonly called packaging tissue of the body.
