Question

Is distance can be zero?

Open in App
Solution

  1. Distance is always positive and never becomes shorter as you travel. As displacement is a change in position relative to an object's initial location, it can be negative, positive, or zero.
  2. As a vector quantity, displacement depends on both direction and magnitude. Therefore, the direction of the object's motion is indicated by the negative and positive signs along with the magnitude of displacement.

Hence, distance can never be zero or negative. The distance will not decrease. A scalar quantity with only one magnitude is distance.
