Question

Is distilled water hard or soft water? Why?

Open in App
Solution

‘Hard water’ is the term applied to water that has minerals in it. Usually, they are calcium, magnesium and even barium, which have marginal solubility and thus are easily precipitated. Water having over 100 ppm equivalent calcium may be classified as ‘hard’.
Distilled water does not have such minerals, so it is ‘soft’.
