Question

Is DNA always perfectly copied during DNA replication?

Open in App
Solution

DNA:

DNA is the abbreviated term for deoxyribonucleic acid which is a polymer formed of nucleotide monomers.

DNA replication:

  1. It is the process by which a copy of parent DNA is made.
  2. DNA Polymerase is the enzyme used.
  3. After every 104 to 105 nucleotides a wrong nucleotide is added.
  4. The enzyme has proofreading activity but still, some errors can be made.
  5. The cell uses DNA repair mechanisms to correct the errors.

Hence, DNA is not always perfectly copied during DNA replication.
