End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD):

  1. Yes, end-stage renal disease is a life-threatening condition that causes a significant loss of kidney function.
  2. By then kidneys are unable to perform their function and can not meet the demands of the body i.e. fail to filter the blood.
  3. Dialysis (temporary and has to be repeated) or a kidney transplant (permanent) is the only medical treatment that can be provided.
  4. The glomerular filtration rate of the kidney is less than 15 mL/min.
  5. The most commonly known cause of ESRD is diabetic nephropathy, followed by hypertension.
