Question

Is energy required for translation?

Open in App
Solution

Translation:

  1. The process by which the mRNA codes for a particular protein is said to be translated. In this process, the ribosome translates the mRNA produced from the DNA into a chain of amino acids.
  2. Yes, energy is required to carry out the translation. For aminoacylation(attachment of amino acid to tRNA), ATP is required.
  3. GTP is required to carry out the first step of elongation and then also in translocation of the ribosome during the process of elongation.
  4. ATP is required for hydrolyzing the incorrectly activated amino acids at the time of proofreading activity done by aminoacyl-tRNA synthetase.
