During evaporation, the molecules with high kinetic energy dissipate into the air from the topmost layer of liquid.
If water is under sunlight for a longer period of time the temperature of the water will increase and the hydrogen bond of water from the surface will break due to which the dissociated molecule will move upward.
Hence evaporation is a surface phenomenon.
