Question

Is glucose an acid, or a base? Do it dissociate ?

Open in App
Solution

It is a polyhydroxy aldehyde, it can be oxidized into an acid. Glucose is a neutral organic substance. It does contain -OH groups, but they do not dissociate so do not cause a difference in pH
But it can be converted into acid when it will be oxidized.
