Is hydra a diploblastic?

Open in App
Solution

Diploblastic

  1. Diploblastic animals are those whose growing embryos contain two tissue layers, or germ layers, ectoderm and endoderm.
  2. Coelom, such as sponges and hydra (coelenterates), is not present here (Porifera).
  3. Sponges, coelenterates, and cnidarians are typical examples.

Hydra, a diploblastic

  1. In Hydra, the cells are arranged in two germinal layers—outer ectoderm and inner endoderm.
  2. Between these two layers is a layer of undifferentiated cells called mesoglea.
  3. Such kind of pattern of embryonic layers is seen in diploblastic animals.
  4. Hence, the hydra is a diploblastic animal.
