Dear student,
In some vertebrates, the pituitary has a blood portal system, the hypophyseal portal system which links the hypothalamus to the pituitary to provide direct and rapid passage of control.
The hypophyseal portal system is not found in fishes. In fishes, the pituitary is directly innervated by neurosecretory fibers. The nerve fibers carry neurohormones from the preoptic region to the pituitary which is called hypothalmo-hypophyseal neurosecretory system. Although in some books it is given that a pituitary portal system is found in teleost.
Regards,
