Gametes can be of two types based on morphology and size of the gamete i.e., Homogametes and Heterogametes.
Homogametes are morphologically similar in size and shape, and cannot be distinguished as male and female. They are also known as isogametes.
Heterogametes are morphologically different in size and shape and have different characteristics. Antherozoids, or sperm, are male gametes. The egg or ovum is the female gamete. Female gametes are big, inactive, and non-motile, whereas male gametes are tiny and motile.
Cladophora has homogametes, while Fucus has heterogametes.
