Is it fair to reserve seats for women, SC's and ST's in a Gram Panchayat?

Ans. The provision for reservation of seats for SCs, STs and women was introduced because these sections of the society were prejudiced against in the past. They were not given equal opportunities to prove their calibre so they remained isolated from the development process. Hence they remained lagged behind.

So looking at this perspective, the reservation that is provided to this section of society is justified to an extent. This will give them opportunity to contribute to their development. However, as society evolves, dynamic socio- economic parameters need to be applied for extending the benefits.
