Is it possible to construct a unique quadrilateral ABCD with AB = 4cm, AD = 6 cm, ABC=60, DAB=75, and ADC=85? If yes, find the value of BCD.

Solution

We have 5 measurements. Thus, a quadrilateral can be constructed.

Step 1: Draw AB = 4 cm.

Step 2: Draw DAB=75 and mark AD = 6 cm on it.

Step 3: At D, draw ADC=85 and extend the line along ADC.

Step 4: Draw ABC=60 and extend the line along ABC such that it intersects the line extending along ADC. Mark the point of intersection as C.

Step 5: Join the points A,B,C and D. Measure BCD. It is equal to 140.

(2.5 marks)

Alternatively :

BCD =360(ABC+DAB+ADC)
= 360(60+75+85)
= (360220)=140

(1.5 marks)
