Dear student,
Leprosy is a chronic infectious disease caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium leprae. The primary symptom of the disease is skin lesions (i.e., patches and growth on skin). If not treated on time it may result to permanent damages of nerves in skin and limbs. It comes under degenerative diseases as the Mycobacterium is responsible to cause the destruction of peripheral nerves which leads to the loss of sensation together with progressive tissue degeneration results in deformity.
