Given the equation;

$\frac{3 m - 7}{8 m + 1} = 4 - m$ ; …. $(1)$

If $m = - 1$ is the root of then $m = - 1$ will satisfy both sides of $(1)$ .

Now, RHs of $(1)$ ; $\frac{- 3 - 7}{- 8 + 1} = \frac{- 10}{- 7} = \frac{10}{7}$

LHS of $(1)$ ; $4 + 1 = 5$

As $\frac{10}{7} \neq 5$

so, $m = - 1$ is not a root of equation $(1)$ .
