Is Management a Science? Give any five reasons in support of your answer.
Management is considered a science because it has an organised body of knowledge which contains a certain degree of truth. Reasons for management as a science are :
(i) Universally accepted principles : Management as a science consists of widely accepted principles based on knowledge accumulated, accepted and used by and among stakeholders.
(ii) Experimentation and observation : Management is based on objectively verified information based on research, observation and experiments conducted to investigate business problems and determine new knowledge or rectify and integrate previous knowledge with relevant solutions.
(iii) Cause and effect relationship : Management involves cause-effect relationship that leads to suitable planning and organising, requires resources that can lead to efficiency and improved productivity in an organisation.
(iv) Systematic body of knowledge : Management is a systematised and organised body of knowledge accumulated and acknowledged in terms of understanding of basic truths related to management.
(v) Test validity and predictability : Validity of scientific principles can be tested at any time which implies that the principles can stand the test of time.
