Question

Is matter continuous or particulate? Explain with examples

Open in App
Solution

  1. A matter is anything that has a definite mass that can be confined in a given space.
  2. A matter is composed of tiny particles called atoms. So the matter is particulate.
  3. A matter has interparticle space between them which proves its particulate nature.

Example: Let us take a glass of water and add a spoon of salt to it and dissolve. salt gets completely dissolved in water but there is no change in the volume of water in the glass because the particle of salt fills the inter particles space of the water molecule.

So, The above explanation shows the particulate nature of matter.
