Open in App
Solution

Prokaryotic cells:

  1. It is a type of cell that does not have a true nucleus or membrane-bound organelles.
  2. Their genetic material is not stored within a membrane-bound nucleus.
  3. They have a nucleoid region, genetic material, ribosomes, and cytosol that contains a cytoskeleton.
  4. Examples include cyanobacteria, E. coli, and mycoplasma.

Mesosomes:

  1. They are present in only prokaryotic cells, not eukaryotic cells.
  2. They are infoldings of the plasma membrane which form vesicles, tubules, and lamellae.
  3. Their functions are DNA replication and distribution, cell wall formation, and help in respiration and secretion.
  4. They also increase the surface area of the plasma membrane.
