Question

Is mole percent the same as volume percent?

Open in App
Solution

Mole percent: The mole percentage of a component is the percentage of the total mole formed by that component.

  1. The mole fraction of a component is multiplied by 100.
  2. It is used to calculate the presence of different components (solid, liquid, or gas) of a substance and allows us to divide a substance into different components based on the number of substances.

Volume percent: Volume percent can be a convenient method of calculating the percentage of various components.

  1. It is used to characterize the composition of gas mixtures.
  2. However, the volume of ideal gases is always directly proportional to the total number of moles of a gaseous substance.

Hence, the mole percent is the same as the volume percent.
