Question

Is motion relative in nature?

Open in App
Solution

Explanation:

Take this as an example:

  1. When someone is looking outside the bus, he will see people walking, and someone sitting inside the bus will see the trees moving. The traveler sees that the person sitting next to him is nodding his head. Therefore speed is relative.
  2. Calculating one object's motion in relation to another moving or stationary object is known as relative motion. Therefore, the motion is calculated relative to the other moving item rather than the earth, as if the object were in a static condition.
  3. A passenger on an airplane, for instance, is moving at the same speed as the aircraft with regard to the ground yet has zero velocity with respect to the aircraft itself. It is possible to calculate relative motion using relative velocity, relative speed, or relative acceleration.

Hence, motion is relative in nature.
