Question

Is NaCl it a mixture?

Open in App
Solution

NaCl is not a mixture, it is a pure substance, ordinary table salt is sodium chloride with the chemical formula (NaCl).

  1. It is referred to as a substance because it has a consistent and definite structure.
  2. Chemically, both samples of sodium chloride are identical.
  3. Water is also a pure substance.
  4. Aqueous sodium chloride is a homogeneous mixture because NaClcompletely dissolves in water, forming a distinctly visible phase.
  5. In a solution, Na+ , Cl- ions completely dissociate from each other and interact electrostatically with hydrogen and oxygen atoms in water.
  6. Sodium chloride, also known as salt or NaCl is one of the most abundant minerals on Earth and an important source of nutrition for a variety of animals and plants. It occurs naturally in seawater and subsurface rock strata.

Pure Substance: The substance is composed entirely of one type or one type of atom is called an element, A substance is pure, it cannot be broken down or converted into another substance even by the use of physical or chemical methods. Mostly metals, or metalloids, non-metals form elements, When two or more elements are chemically combined in a specific ratio, pure substances are formed. However, chemical processes enable the breakdown of these compounds into their constituent parts.

Hence, NaCl is not a mixture.
