Even newton himself said that he know the amount of gravitational force between two bodies but didnt know how or what caused it .It was solved by Einstein in his theory of general relativity
but newtons formula is widely used becuse it gives an approximate answer and is simple too .Whereas einsteins formula is a bit tough for regular use
