Question

Is osmosis movement of water from higher concentration to lower concentration or vise-vesa?

Open in App
Solution

Osmosis is the movement of water molecules through a selectively permeable membrane from higher water concentration to a lower waterconcentration - or - down a concentration gradient. Animal cells are surrounded only by the membrane and may swell up and burst if too much waterenters by osmosis.
During osmosis,If the concentration of water molecules ouside the cell is lower than the concentration of water molecules outside the cell then the water moves out through osmosis.
