Catalyst: The substance which changes the rate of a chemical reaction without being consumed during the reaction.

  1. Some examples of catalyst is enzyme, platinum, zinc etc.
  2. Oxygen is a catalyst it can increase the rate of a chemical reaction.
  3. In the combustion reaction of alkane, oxygen is the main catalyst.
  4. The following reaction is an example of a combustion reaction of alkane in which oxygen plays the role of catalyst.

Hence, oxygen is a catalyst.
