Is parathyroid an endocrine gland?

Open in App
Solution

Endocrine gland:

The ductless organs synthesize hormones (chemical messengers with highly specific targets and functions) and release the chemical messengers directly into the blood without a duct known as the endocrine gland.

Parathyroid gland:

  1. Parathyroid is an endocrine gland located at the back of the neck.
  2. It is an endocrine gland as it secretes a parathyroid hormone which controls the calcium levels in the blood.
  3. The parathyroid hormone (PTH) helps in the regulation of calcium in the body.
  4. It can also control the absorption of phosphorus and vitamin D (fat-soluble calciferol).
