Petrol is neither an element nor a compound. It is mixture of different hydrocarbons. Here hydrocarbons are organic compounds which are mainly composed of Carbon and hydrogen.

They are paraffin, alkene and cycloalkanes mainly in different percentage.

At different temperature, we can separate these components like gasoline, diesel, fuel oil, kerosene etc.
