Question

Is potential drop same as potential difference or voltage?

Open in App
Solution

Potential difference is the difference of potential between two different points in an electrical circuit. Generally sources are at higher potential and loads at lower potential. So the potential difference will give the voltage of source.

Where as potential drop is the drop in voltage due to the resistance or impedance offered by the loads. It depends on the amount of current flowing through the loads.

Both quantities have the same unit volts but potential drop can't be mentioned as Voltage.
