Question

Is rate constant dependent on the concentration?

Open in App
Solution

The rate constant

The proportionality constant in the equation that defines the link between the rate of a chemical reaction and the concentrations of the reacting chemicals is the rate constant, also known as the specific rate constant.

Concentration

The amount of a substance, such as salt, present in a certain volume of tissue or liquid, such as blood. When there is less water present in a substance, it becomes more concentrated.

  1. The response between the rate of the chemical reaction and the reactant concentration is known as the rate law for a chemical reaction.
  2. The rate constant is the constant of proportionality in a rate law. The concentration has no influence on the rate constant.

Hence, the rate constant is independent of concentration.
