Sickle cell anemia:

  1. Sickle cell anemia is an inherited blood disorder in which flexible red blood cells turn into stiff sickle cells.
  2. It blocks normal blood flow and blood vessels.
  3. In the case of sickle cell anemia, a beta-hemoglobin gene is found on chromosome 11.
  4. It forms abnormal hemoglobin.
  5. It is an autosomal recessive genetic disorder.
  6. For the child to have this disease, both parents need to carry the sickle cell gene.
  7. The child should have inherited one set of that faulty genes from each of the parents.
  8. Sickle cell anemia is hereditary.
