Question

Is soap dissolve in water?

Open in App
Solution

Explanation:

  1. Soap: Soap is a fatty acid salt of potassium or sodium.
  2. Soap has two parts one is the hydrophobic tail and the other is the hydrophilic head.
  3. Hydrophobic tail ( basically it is a long chain of hydrocarbon) is water-insoluble, it is soluble in organic solvents.
  4. Hydrophilic head is water-soluble because it has potassium or sodium at the head position.

Hence, soap is water soluble.
