Solution
Cholera:
Cholera is an infection of the small intestine which is caused by the bacterium Vibrio cholerae, present in contaminated water.
This bacterium leads to a disruption in the water absorption pathway leading to excessive excretion of watery bowels.
It results in excessive dehydration, paleness, and fatigue.
Dysentery:
Dysentery is the inflammation of the small intestine caused mainly by the protozoa, Entamoeba histolytica, from contaminated food and water.
The inflammation of the small intestine leads to insufficient water reabsorption from the digested food and this culminated in frequent loose motions with blood and mucus.
It leads to extreme weakness and causes immense pain.
Conclusion:
Since both the diseases are water-borne, a housefly is a common carrier of both. Several insects, particularly houseflies persist in areas where sanitation is compromised and water resources are contaminated.
House flies sit on waste products and fecal matter of infected people and then carry the pathogens to the food and water they land on subsequently.
Consuming the contaminated food and/or water provides entry to the germs inside the person’s body, thereby causing cholera and dysentery.
