Solution

The outermost layer of the trees is covered by the bark. Which gives it strength, and protects the plant from injury and infections. The bark is made up of dead cells from different origins like cork, phelloderm, cortex, phloem, and xylem. The outer layer of the young stem is made up of living cells.
