Phloem:

  1. It is a living tissue, which is responsible for transporting food and other organic materials.
  2. Xylem generally consists of dead cells (parenchyma is the only living cell present in the xylem).
  3. Phloem: It is a tubular-shaped, elongated structure having walls with thin sieve tubes.
  4. They are present in stems and leaves and are found on the outer sides of the vesicular bundles.
  5. They transport food and other nutrients i.e sugar and amino acids from leaves to the storage organs as well as the growing parts of the plant.
