Question

Is the power in series and parallel different for other appliances like when we connect bulbs in series we take it inversely proportional to resistance but for others we take it directly proportional?

Open in App
Solution

For a single device, the power in both series and parallel is same.
But for a number of devices, the power delivered is different in series and parallel.
But the total power in series and parallel is same.

In series circuit, the formula for power is ,p=i²R.
Here power is directly proportional to R.
We took i here because current is constant in series.

In parallel circuit, the formula for power is,p=V²/R
Here power is inversely proportional to R.
We took V here because, voltage is constant in parallel circuit.
