The fallopian tubes are two thin tubes, one on each side of the uterus, which help lead the mature egg from the ovaries to the uterus. The part closer to the ovary is the funnel-shaped infundibulum. The infundibulum leads to a wider part of the oviduct called ampulla. This is where fertilization takes place. The last part of the oviduct, called the isthmus, has a narrow lumen and it joins the uterus.
