Both the geoid and spheroid shapes are attributed to earth, but geoid is more accepted.

Geoid shape is a three dimensional shape of an oval, which is elongated either way - horizontal or vertical. another example of the geoid shape is an egg.
Similar to the egg, the earth is elongated horizontally or in simple language, the polar regions are more flat.
