Question

Is there any difference between a solution and a homogeneous mixture?

Open in App
Solution

A solution is a type of homogeneous mixture.

All homogeneous mixtures are not solutions but all solutions (true solutions) are homogeneous mixture.

e.g. air is a homogeneous mixture of different gases but it is not a solution.

Note: In common language, a mixture of chalk in water is called a solution but according to scientific definition, it is a suspension (heterogeneous mixture) and not a solution.
