F1 or the first filial generation is formed when two homozygous parents are crossed. Out of the two, one is homozygous dominant for a character while the other is homozygous recessive. The individuals of the F1 generation are thus all heterozygous for a particular trait.
F2 generation is obtained by selfing the individuals of the F1 generation. The individuals of the F2 generation have homozygous as well as heterozygous genotype. The genotypic ration is 1:2:1 and the phenotypic ratio is 3:1.
