Hypothalamus and medulla:
Hypothalamus and the medulla oblongata are two primitive brain regions, that regulate fundamental functional aspects and homeostasis in higher mammals.
Hypothalamus is generally located in the ventral part of the diencephalon, below the thalamus, and just above the brain stem (medulla oblongata).
On the other hand, the medulla oblongata is located in the hindbrain, anterior to the cerebellum.
