Is there any relation that the R isomer compound will rotate the plane polarised light towards right only and the S isomers compound will rotate the plane polarised light towards left only?

Solution

Dear Student,

No, the R-S configuration has no relation with the direction in which a compound rotates the plane polarised light. We cannot tell in which direction the light is rotating until its optical rotation is measured in a polarimeter.
