Is there any specific reason as to why the names of the shells for electrons to revolve around the nucleus start with the letter K (as in K-shell, L-shell, M-shell, etc.)?

Scientist Neil Bohr after his discovery was not sure that if there are more orbits near to the nucleus so, he started naming them from middle letters so that there is a scope left to name the orbits which lie nearer to the nucleus.
