Is there no blood supply to epithelial tissue?

Epithelia tissue is avascular, i.e. it does not have its own blood supply. The connective tissue located beneath the basement membrane of the epithelial tissue contains blood vessels that provide the nutrient and oxygen to the epithelial cells.
