Solution

The correct option is A 1 hour and 10 minutes
Duration of the time slot = 2 hours and 20 minutes

Time slot is divided into two time slots of same duration.

So, duration of new time slots = 12 × Duration of the time slot

We know that half of 2 hours = 1 hour and half of 20 minutes = 10 minutes.

Hence, duration of new time slots = 1 hour amd 10 minutes

Q.

Direction: Read the following passage and solve the questions based on it.

Five electives, P, Q, R, S, and T, each of 3-hour duration, are scheduled on each of the five days in a week for the students in a school. There are two slots in a day: Morning (M) and Afternoon (F). Each elective is scheduled for 6 hours, one in the morning slot and the other in the afternoon slot. No elective is scheduled for 6 hours on the same day. Each elective is handled by one professor among A, B, C, D, and E.

i.P is scheduled on Tuesday and Friday
ii.If R is scheduled in one slot, then T has to be scheduled in the other slot on the same day
iii.Q is scheduled on Wednesday and Friday.
iv.Professor A, who handles S, is not available on Tuesday morning.
v. Professors B and E handle elective R and T, respectively.
vi. Professors D and C handle the sessions in the morning and afternoon slots, respectively, on Friday.
vii. Professor E is available only in the morning slot on Monday.

Common Solution :

From statements i, ii, and iii, we get the following table. R and T are scheduled on the same day. Only on Monday and Thursday, we have both slots empty. Hence, R and T are scheduled on Monday and Thursday only. So, S must be scheduled on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Days/Slots Mon Tue Wed Thurs Fri
Morning
Afternoon
RT PS QS RT PQ

From statement iv, S is handled by Professor A on Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning.
From statements v and vii, Professor E handles elective T on Monday morning. Hence, Professor B handles elective R on Thursday morning.
Days/Slots Mon Tue Wed Thurs Fri
Morning T-E P S-A R-B Q
Afternoon R-B S-A Q T-E P
RT PS QS RT PQ

From statement vi, Professor D handles elective Q in the morning slot on Friday and Professor C handles elective P in the afternoon slot on Friday.
Days/Slots Mon Tue Wed Thurs Fri
Morning T-E P-C S-A R-B Q-D
Afternoon R-B S-A Q-D T-E P-C

Which of the following electives is scheduled on Tuesday in any of the slots?
