Pancreas is both a duct gland as well as a ductless gland. As a ductless gland, it has special groups of hormone secreting cells called ISLETS OF LANGERHANS, which r scattered in d entire gland. Islets produce 3 hormones : insulin from beta cells, glucagon from alpha cells, & somatostatin from delta cells.
The islets of Langerhans are the regions of the pancreas that contain its endocrine (i.e., hormone-producing) cells. The islets of Langerhans constitute approximately 1 to 2% of the mass of the pancreas. There are about one million islets in a healthy adult human pancreas, which are distributed throughout the organ.
